Our History

Our History

As a family firm we are proud of our history. We were established as a removals company in Clevedon, North Somerset at the beginning of the twentieth century and can boast that we are the oldest family run removal business in the area. We are dedicated to maintaining and developing the high level of service and standards that have been the basis of our business and reputation for the last four generations.

Yeates’ history campaign

This year we are launching our Yeates’ history campaign! Over the coming months we will be uncovering information and stories about our company including some of the ups and downs of trading over the last 100 years. As a family run, local firm there are still many people around who have memories, photos and other information which we hope to draw upon and include in our company archives. We hope to share some of the highlights with you as our campaign grows.

where it all began

Our company was established in 1910 by George and Ginny Yeates who provided horses and carts for general haulage in Clevedon and the surrounding areas. Yeates was incorporated as a limited company in 1938 and has always been run by family members. It is currently headed up by James Griffin who took over from his father John in 2001.

In 2010 we celebrated our 100th year in business by raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West (our chosen charity).

In 2022 we opened a new £2.8m purpose-built removals and self storage facility in Weston-super-Mare. This will facilitate our expansion and enable us to continue to provide the first class services that have been the core of our business for many years.
